O. B.: January 19 ★ H E I G H T: 5 feet and 6.5 inches ★ W E I G H T: 112 lbs ★ A P P E A R A N C E: Gaara is a rather slim and tall teenager. He has reddish brown hair and green eyes. He has black eyeliner around his eyes as well. Right above his left eye, Gaara has the kanji symbol for 'love' tattooed in red. His regular ou4fit consists of a long sleeved red cloak with a gray vest over his chest. The cloak goes down to his legs, where it is unbuttoned and opened. Under it he wears black pants and black sandals. He also has a gourd with markings containing his sand on his back. Being a Kage at a very young age, Gaara has a huge responsibility. He does his job well, though. Gaara does whatever he can to protect the people he cares about. His top priority is his village, even though they are the ones who shunned him when he was a child. He would go out of his means to protect them like a proper Kage would, even if it meant dying for them (which he has done before). He is very mature for his age, though he lacks experience being a leader. He knows little about history, often needing the other Kages to inform him. Gaara is the type of guy that would only fight when he needs to, rarely or never fighting 'for the heck of it'. He would only fight when his life or the lives of people he cares about were in danger, or if he were attacked first. ★ L I K E S: ♥ Naruto ★ D I S L I K E S: ✗ War ★ E T C E T E R A: Karura (Mother), Yashamaru (uncle), Fourth Kazekage (Father) Gaara was born premature. Being the child of Karura and the Fourth Kazekage, Gaara was already destined for greatness. Gaara had two siblings: Kankuro and Temari. The three of them were called the Sand Siblings. Before Gaara's birth, his father, the Fourth Kazekage, ordered Lady Chiyo to seal Shukaku, the one tailed beast, inside Gaara, so that he may be a great weapon for Suna. At birth Karura died, leaving his father to take care of him. His father only trained him in ninjutsu, though, and gave Gaara to be raised by his uncle Yashamaru. Because of Shukaku, everyone in Suna feared and hated Gaara, seeing only the monster within him. It seemed as if the only one who loved him was Yashamaru. It was understandable as to why they feared Gaara, because sometimes Gaara would unknowingly lose control and harm other due to Shukaku's powers. Yashamaru was the only one who knew Gaara didn't do them intentionally. Even the Fourth Kazekage was disappointed in Gaara's lack of control. The Fourth Kazekage then ordered Yashamaru to play with Gaara's mind, lying to him about his mother and eventually trying to kill him. Yashamaru, though, really did love and care about Gaara. Gaara, unknowingly, killed Yashamaru instead and went on believing the lies he had been told. This is what turned Gaara into the bloodthristy demon. At the Chuunin exams, Gaara defeated many opponents but was unable to defeat Sasuke during their fight and when he turned into Shukaku for the invasion he could not defeat Naruto, he instead grew to respect him. Gaara was shocked that Naruto had experienced the same loneliness that he had, but Naruto never gave up on his dream. Naruto kept on pursuing the dream that the village would one day acknowledge him and he would become the Hokage. From that day on, Gaara decided to take on the same dream as Naruto, to become the Kazekage of Sunagakure and to have his people acknowledge him. His determination also taught him to rely on his own power, not Shukaku's. This determination and perserverance is what made Gaara the Kazekage. Timeskip After the timeskip, Gaara had become the Kazekage. It showed Gaara had become a caring and loving person. Before long, Gaara was attacked by Akatsuki. Namely, the art lover Deidara. Deidara's kekkei genkai enabled him to explode his clay creations. Deidara was also a pupil of Onoki, the Third Tsuchikage. Gaara and Deidara had a deadly fight, in which Gaara was ruthless. During their fight, Gaara managed to remove Deidara's arm using Sand Funeral. The match turned in Deidara's favor, though. Deidara created a huge explosion that would annihilate the whole of Suna. Just when everybody thought their life was over, Gaara used the rest of his chakra to create a 'floor' of sand over the village, saving them from destruction. Out of chakra, Gaara went unconscious and Deidara swooped in to capture him. The Akatsuki then extracted Shukaku from Gaara, leaving the Jinchuriki dead. When Naruto and his gang finally retrieved Gaara, they were very sad to find that he had died. They were sad to be the ones that had to break the news to the village that their new Kazekage had died. Lady Chiyo had other thoughts, though. She was was willing to give her life to save Gaara, using reanimation jutsu. She humbly died for the sake of Suna, Gaara, and the new generation of Shinobi. Shinobi Jutsu Sabaku Kyuu (Desert Coffin) - Gaara uses chakra to engulf an opponent completely in sand, immobilizing them and sometimes suffocating them. Gaara has one hand performing the hand seals, and the other is out extended in front of him, open. He usually follows this jutsu up with the deadly Sabaku Sousou (see below). Sabaku Sousou (Desert Funeral) - The follow-up to Sabaku Kyuu, this makes the sand around an opponent implode and compact together, crushing their body and resulting in instant death. There is almost no way to escape the technique, especially if immobilized by Sabaku Kyuu. When Gaara has his palm open during Sabaku Kyuu, he closes it sharply to perform Sabaku Sousou, almost as if imitating the contracting motion of the sand. At one point in the manga I noticed he said "Sabaku Kyuu" instead of "Sabaku Sousou" while he was crushing Deidara's arm.  Weird. DXSabaku Rou (Desert Prison) - A huge mass of sand rushes out to imprison the enemy. I haven't read back to Part I for a while, but Gaara uses this against Deidara in an effort to stop the Akatsuki shinobi's movements. Sabaku Rou is HUGE--it looks almost like the Shukaku's claw, in fact. (That dark dot in the center of that pic is Gaara's enemy, everything else is the Sabaku Rou.) Suna no Tate (Shield of Sand - The automatic sand shield that acts independant of Gaara's will. Whenever Gaara is danger of harm, it flicks up to guard him from damage. It can withstand nearly any standard attack, whether it be shuriken projectiles, needles, or even explosions. It has been defeated by Lee's high-speed taijutsu, in which the sand shield can't keep up. Suna no Yoroi (Armor of Sand) - The armor of sand is an extremely thin, but dense layer of sand that lies directly on Gaara's skin, protecting him should the Suna no Tate fail to protect him. However, this requires an immense of chakra to compact the sand together, and it slows the user down as a result of the extra weight. Thus, Gaara only uses it unless he absolutely has to. But the effectiveness of the jutsu is undeniable--it can more often than not render an attack absolutely useless. It's also why Gaara appears 'cracked' when he gets attacked. Suna Bunshin (Sand Doppelganger) - Gaara's version of the Kage Bunshin, he creates a doppelganger out of sand. He uses this in the fight against Lee, right before Lee lands the final blow of his Lotus technique. He also uses it against Sasuke in their Chuunin Exam match. This is another one of Gaara's many defensive techniques to keep himself unharmed. Interestingly, the sand clone can move just as flexibly as a real human. Ryuusa Bakuryuu (Quicksand Waterfall) - Gaara manipulates sand so it acts like a massive tidal wave or water fall. He uses this against Lee, sweeping him off his feet and causing him to lose control. Gaara also uses this as a prelude to Sabaku Rou in his fight vs. Deidara. This jutsu uses and somehow procures an immense amount of sand--it literally is a 'sea of sand'. I'm guessing it also uses up a lot of chakra. Sabaku Taisou (Imperial Desert Funeral) - The counterpart to Ryuusa Bakuryuu, Gaara compacts the huge amount of sand created by the former technique in a style similar to that of Sabaku Sousou. As one might expect, quite a damaging jutsu. (For comparison's sake, those dots are Lee and Gaara) Sabaku Fuyuu (Desert Suspension) - Gaara uses sand to levitate himself in the air. Versus Deidara, he hops onto this flying wave of sand, so he can fight the bird-mounted Deidara. Gaara can also levitate a sphere-shaped shield of sand in the air, as he shows in the same fight. This shield, probably sourced from his automatic sand shield, is extremely quick. Suna Shigure (Sand Drizzle) - Gaara rains sand down on his opponent from above, and an alternative way to lead up to Sabaku Sousou. The wide range of this jutsu can coat the entire area in sand, which gives Gaara the ability to attack from nearly everywhere. Gaara uses this jutsu to prove Kimimaro wrong when the other smirks that Gaara cannot attack if there is no sand on the ground. Daisan no Me (Third Eye) - An eye made out of sand. Somehow, the sand condenses to form what looks like a perfectly normal eyeball (as normal as a socket-less eyeball gets, at least). It 'spies' for Gaara when he's enclosed within his sand-sphere defense shield. He also uses it to get answers during the first part of the Chuunin Exams.
