Beneath the blistering heat of the sun, the threat of dehydration, heat stroke and skin poisoning are only the icing on the cake. The seemingly endless dunes a nearly impossible to discern from each other, directions easily being confused with the lack of land marks. Often times, shinobi from Suna would go out into the desert simply to scout out for wonderers. Ever since the incident with Konohagakure years ago, the Hidden Sand was far more aware of its position and began to transform from a solitudal, hostile place to one far more welcoming. New trades were formed meaning caravans arrived and left nearly weekly.
It was one of these caravans that Tomoe had found herself escorting from the village an across the most treacherous portions of the desert. The trek was long and slow moving, beast pulling carts, women, children and men a like all making up the group of nomads. She was careful in her guiding, keeping mostly to herself till they reached the canyon that would lead them to more familiar territory. From what she understood, they were off to the land of fire. Beyond this canyon, they would pass through the River country and, just after that, the Land of Fire. She spoke once more to the elder, bidding them farewell and good luck.
Tomoe lingered at the mouth of the canyon till the caravan had gone completely inside before letting out a small sigh. These were the more boring missions that came out these days. Turning on her heels, she peering out past the rocky outcrops towards the desert, debating her options. She could linger here and rest in the shade or head straight back to the village. Tomoe really wasn’t all that tired but every shinobi needed there rest. She never knew what could be waiting. Shrugging her shoulders, she wondered off to the right, searching for a comfortable place, out of sight, to sit for a little while.
During her hunt for a spot to sit, she discovered something interesting. Interesting though creepy. A very large Emperor Scorpion sat on a rock, bathing in the sun. A soon as Tomoe’s shadow crossed it, its poisonous tail lifted, claws raised in defense. It would be a good specimen and might produce a decent amount of anti-venom. So, she removed a small glass jar from the shoulder bag she carried with her, attempting to coax the angry creature inside. If she was stung, she knew she would be fine. She was a medical ninja after all.
”Come on you little creepy bastard…” she murmured, nudging its backside with the lid, trying to get it to move forward into the well positioned jar. It sprang back making Tomoe jerk her hand away with a small squeak of surprise before she shot it a glare. It’s a good thing no one heard that. She would have been better off stabbing the sucker with a Senbon but she wanted it alive. So, she tried again. Finally, the scorpion darted into the jar, smacking harshly against the clear bottom as Tomoe slammed the lid down, smirking slightly to herself. Tomoe One, Creepy Bug Zero! [/style] |

She hadn't really been into too much trouble if she could say so herself. It had been non-stop journeys so far however. She had been coming back and forth, back and forth. It felt like a pattern. A pattern of what ? Going from Konoha to Suna. It was mostly all this talk of the chuunin exams. She wasn't sure if they were going to happen or not, but they were at least trying.
She had been paired with Konoha's resident Genius, or sometimes she felt like he was the resident slacker: Shikamaru Nara. The chuunin was the laziest person on the planet. She didn't even know how he was able to keep up with this anymore. Recently, he had actually been useful for the chuunin exams as a upcoming proctor like herself. It was just a pain traveling back and forth. Thankfully she could fly, or.. sorta, whatever people wanted to call it.
She was walking for now, having said her goodbyes and was heading back to Suna so she could tell the Kazekage about the recent information as well as take a short break from everything before she knew she had to get back. As she went through the canyon she passed a few travelers that she assumed were coming from suna. She smiled with a easy greeting as she waved to him before she found her way out of the canyon.
She didn't expect .. another person. She saw someone, familiar to her, from the Sand Village. She was about to say something when she noticed the girl was doing something rather dangerous. A scorpion was it? She briefly recalled this girl being a medical ninja. A jounin like herself if she didn't know any better. She waited in silence before she finally caught her prey in a jar.
"Little dangerous to be doing that don't you think?" she asked walking up to the woman. She could only hope she didn't scare her enough to drop that jar. Well, it wasn’t this guys lucky day. When she got back to Suna, she’d be dropping him off at the experimental wing of the medical ward. He’d be milked for his venom, which would be used for either anti-venom or some other medical purpose. Then,. After that, he might be set free, unless, after a day or two, he produces more venom. With his size, that was more than likely. If that occurred, the other medical shinobi would keep him around in a cage with other scorpions. Sure he’d be fed, but he wouldn’t be free. Oh well, that’s how life worked. Shrugging to herself, she paused, the hairs on the back of her neck raising. Something was… suddenly different around her.
How she didn’t notice before she was unsure. A voice reached her ears just as her head whipped around to find the source, the jar nearly slipping from her fingers till she realized the person who was watching her wasn’t a threat. The smaller shinobi heaved a dramatic sigh of relief. Temari was quite famous in their village and Tomoe recognized her instantly, passing a little smile as she tucked the jar away in her bag. ”Better me than you. If I get stung, the area will burn and my hand will swell but in a few hours, I would be fine,” she spoke calmly, brushing her hands off on her thighs before refocusing her attention on the blond across from her.
At nineteen years old, Tomoe was probably one of the least threatening, in appearance, shinobi in Sunagakure. She was tiny. Really tiny, which had earned her a nickname during her first attempt at becoming a Chuunin when she was younger: The Pocket Shinobi. It was embarrassing but Tomoe never let her size hinder her. She hadn’t become a Jounin for nothing. She may have been a little bit taller than the blond but Temari could be far more intimidating, Tomoe was sure. Reaching up, she rubbed the back of her neck with one gloved hand, looking upward for a moment.
”Scorpion venom is rather valuable so I couldn’t pass it up… Anyway, heading back to the village, Temari-san?” Tomoe didn’t need herself rambling so she cut herself off and changed the subject, lowering her hand back to her side. She never was really good around people she didn’t know. A rather awkward person really. ”I’m Tomoe, by the way. Just in case you were wondering…” She doubted if the other female knew her name. She wasn’t the most eye catching or memorable person around, even though she preferred it that way. If a shinobi wasn’t notable, then they would be noticeable. That gave her a little advantage over some of the peers. Slipping in and out of places undetected was rather easy for her, even if it were places in the village. No one noticed Tomoe. That thought made her smile, mentally of course. [/style] |
